IMPHAL, Sept 30 - The 122nd birth anniversary of Jana Neta Hijam Irawat, a well known politician and social activist in Manipur, was observed in the State on Sunday.
The State level Jana Neta Irawat Day was organised at BT Park here with Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Deputy CM Y Joykumar and Arts and Culture Minister L Jayentakumar attending the observation.
The Chief Minister paid floral tributes at the portrait of Lamyanba Hijam Irawat. Earlier, the foundation stone for the construction of the statue of Irawat was laid at Irawat Square at Thangmeiband here.
The day was also observed at Hojai in Assam with State Revenue Minister Karam Shyam attending the function as chief guest.
Considered as the father of modern Manipur, Irawat was a versatile personality who made his mark as a writer, politician, journalist and a true revolutionary.
