JORHAT, Aug 9 At a time when different species of local birds have become endangered in the region, the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited and the State Forest department have decided to set up a bird conservation center near Jorhat-Mariani road at Cinnamora here, in which the local and migratory birds fly around frequently.
The ONGCL authority has decided to supply the required fund to set up the conservation centre which has already been informed to the forest department. According to a source, the forest department has been preparing the estimate including the fund and the design of the proposed centre.
The marshy land in which the proposed centre is going to be established is spread over about 70 bighas of land. Various species of wild birds are often seen flying over the entire area. Witnessing the natural beauty, the Chief Minister of Assam and Governor of Assam expressed hope over the potential of a bird conservation center at the place.
According to a source, an observation tower will be set up to observe the birds in the conservation centre. Several ponds will also be dug to keep water in the area throughout the year. The plantation of trees will be done to provide suitable nesting facilities for the local birds here. A favourable atmosphere for breeding of the local birds will be prepared in the entire area.
The forest dept will prepare the estimate within this year and the conservation will be started as soon as ONGCL releases the required fund.
