Biography of a sportswoman released

GOALPARA, Jan 19 - A book titled Paakghor Pora Americar Khelpotharor Loi written by prolific writer and story teller Sailen Das and published by Birbal Choudhury was released at a solemn function held recently here at the DN Stadium, Goalpara.

Retired principal of Goalpara College, Khagendra Prasad Deka while releasing the book said that the writer has eloquently penned down a story about a sports personality of the district and her struggles and hardship that will inspire many youths and sportman alike in the days to come. He also praised the efforts of the writer who has already authored more than 30 books, for his exploration of such a theme and congratulated the main character of the book Domointi Nath for her exploits in the field of sports.

Addressing the gathering, another retired principal of Goalpara College, Roma Kanta Baruah,who presided over the programme said that the writer has made an excellent contribution to sports which will inspire budding sportsmen by highlighting a little-known sports personality Domointi Nath of the district through this biographical work. Baruah also said that the writer needs to be commended for his efforts inspite of his busy schedule.

Another speaker, retired vice-principal Abedur Rahman Saikia said that the biography gave insights on various aspects of the sportwoman�s life, a story full of trials and tribulations. He also praised the writer for his immense contribution and for the quality of narration. Associate Professor, Dr Ranjit Choudhury spoke briefly about the book and commended the efforts of the writer for bringing out a biography and was also highly impressed by the title of the book.

The publisher of the book, Birbal Choudhury in his brief address thanked the writer for authoring a biography which is the first book written on a sports personality. He also appreciated the creative efforts of the writer who is also a renowned social worker. Among others Dipika Hajowary, Adityya Bora,Utpalendu Das, Sahadeb Sutradhar also spoke on the occasion.

Several sportspersons including Kailash Brahma, Kusum Rabha, Morjina Begum, Sahidur Zaman, Deba Kr Nath, Sahadeb Sutradhar, Utpalendu Das and Jaharul Islam were felicitated on the occasion. Earlier, the programme began with a Rabindra sangeet by Jesmine Sultana. Noni Das coordinated the entire programme.
