IMPHAL, Feb 6 � The 93rd birth anniversary of late MK Binodini Devi was held at Maharaj Chandrakriti auditorium here today.
Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh attended the function and released the book �The Maharaja�s Household�, an English translation of MK Binodini�s �Churachand gi Imung Manung�.
�The book is the first work of Manipur literature presented at the recently concluded Zee Jaipur Literature Festival 2015 at a panel devoted to MK Binodini,� disclosed Ibobi.
�Late MK Binodini Devi, popularly known as Wangoleima and later as Imasi, was one of the towering personalities of the Manipur cultural movement. Even though she is known more for her creative works in literature, she also worked in various fields including politics�, he said.
Ibobi said her contributions to Manipuri films, culture, fine arts, women empowerment, etc., has made her an icon of Manipur.
Amitabh Ghosh, an acclaimed writer, presented the first ever public reading session and discussion here on his forthcoming novel �Flood of Fire� which is scheduled to be released in May this year.
Prof Aruna Nahakpam of the Manipur University�s Manipuri department, Late Binodini�s son L Somi Roy, a film curator in New York and founder and Managing trustee of Imasi Foundation and Art and Culture Secretary K Radhakumar Singh also spoke on the occasion.
Renowned artist Priti Patel�s Kolkata-based Anjika of which Binodini was the founder patron, presented a play �Black Swan: The chosen one�.
