Bindra hopeful of another medal at London

NEW DELHI, Nov 2 (PTI): India�s first individual Olympic gold medallist, Abhinav Bindra is hopeful of clinching another medal at the 2012 London Olympics.

�I don�t know what can be expected from me but I can only try and work very hard. I can only try and do my best, ensure that I put in my best efforts. Hopefully I can get the medal at the Olympic,� said Bindra.

Bindra had clinched the London Olympic berth despite finishing a lowly eighth in the 10m air rifle event of the Shooting World Cup in Munich in June this year.

The ace marksman had won the gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics - a first for the country in the history of the Games in individual sport.

Bindra said that all the shooters who have qualified for the London Olympics are capable of winning medals.

�Shooters have done very well in the last few years for the country and won medals. All the shooters are capable of winning medals at the London Olympic,� said the Khel Ratna and Arjuna awardee on the sidelines of a function here yesterday. A total of eight Indian shooters have qualified for the London event namely Gagan Narang, Hariom Singh, Sanjeev Rajput, Ronjan Sodhi, Annuraj Singh, Rahi Sarnoba, Vijay Kumar and Bindra.

JN Stadium to have India�s best football pitch: Das

New Delhi, Nov 2 (PTI): If the All India Football Federation has its way, the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium will soon have a turf, which will be the best in the country, AIFF general secretary Kushal Das said today.

Sports Minister Ajay Maken had declared the stadium as the hub of football in the country, allowing the federation to use it for 40 days every year.

�It is heartening to see that our dynamic sports minister has shown interest in football, a sport that needs development. We are building a new football pitch that will be the best in the country. The SAFF Cup (the December 2-11 event will be held at the venue) will be followed by more international matches,� Das said. �We are looking to develop football in the country,� he added. And with the Sports Ministry keen to turn the multi-sport stadium into a football hub, Das felt that the SAFF Cup will help �develop that hub�.

�The ministry of sports and SAI were very keen to develop football into a priority sport,� Das said.
