UDALGURI, March 22 � The second Binai Khungur Basumatary Memorial Award founded by the Binai Khungur Trust, Harisinga in Udalguri district, was ceremoniously awarded to renowned Boro singing icon Denkhwrani Sulekha Basumatary on Saturday in the Bishnu Rabha Kristi Sangha premises here in presence of a large gathering.
The award ceremony was chaired by Rihon Daimari, MLA of Udalguri LAC and president of the trust. It was attended by Mitharam Basumatary, executive member of the BTC as chief guest.
The meeting held on the occasion was addressed by DR Nabla (Ranjan Daimari), president of NDFB, while Dr Keshab Dutta, retired principal of Tangla College and senior advocate of Udalguri Sessions Court and Nandeswar Daimari, headmaster of Ambagaon High School and well-known Boro litterateur spoke on the topic �Role of youth in building the society with special reference to Lieutenant Binai Khungur Basuamtary towards the socio-political rejuvenation of the Boros and the society as a whole�.
Earlier, Protul Kr Bhobora, adviser to the trust, highlighted the life and works of the former MLA of Udalguri LAC.
The award carries a cash amount of Rs 50,000 along with a citation and a shawl. Award recipient, melody queen Sulekha enthralled the audience with her songs.
