GUWAHATI, May 6 � Assam players dominated the AITA Championship Series U-16 Tennis Championship which concluded at the All Assam Tennis Association complex, Chachal here today.
Assam boy Bijoy Kumar Mohanty won the boys� singles title with a 6-0, 6-7(5), 7-2 victory against Mingkhi Talom of Arunachal Pradesh in the final.
After a facile 6-0 victory in the first set, Bijoy had to face a stiff challenge from his Arunachal opponent and went down 6-7 (5). Mingkhi made a smart comeback with some sharp services and baseline volleys. But in the final set, where the tie-breaker system of 13 points was applied, Bijoy outplayed Mingkhi 7-2.
Priyana Kalita of Assam earned a convincing 6-2, 6-2 straight set victory against Anindrita Mitra of Madhya Pradesh for the girls� singles title. Priyana was too good to Anindrita as the Madhya Pradesh could not counter Priyana�s services and forehand drives.
