Bihu troupe to perform in London Olympics

GUWAHATI, July 13 � The Bihu troupe of Ranjit Gogoi has been invited to perform in the Indian campaign for London Olympics on August 1 and 2 to be held at Royal Festival Hall, South Bank Centre, London.

Besides, the popular troupe will also perform during the Olympic torch relay (Flame Event) on July 25.

This is for the first time that a Bihu troupe from Assam has been invited to perform in Olympics.

The 16-member Bihu troupe will leave for London on July 23 from Kolkota.

However, Gogoi clarified that the troupe has not been invited to perform neither in the opening or the closing ceremony.

Speaking at a press conference, Gogoi said that the received the invitation on May 18 from the Nehru Centre, Minister (Culture) and Director (The Nehru Centre), the High Commission of Indian, London.

Members of the troupe thanked Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, ONGC and Assam pollution Control Board, besides other individuals for extending financial support.
