Bihu of Moran community begins

TINSUKIA, April 20 - The Morans, one of the aboriginal ethnic groups of the Northeast, have started their Rongali or Bohag Bihu today being the first Wednesday of the Assamese month Bohag.

The festival began with �Garu Bihu� in which the community people with traditional custom pasted their cattle with maah-halodhi and chanted for their well-being as they bathed the domestic animals. After the Garu Bihu rituals, the people, especially the youth, danced to the rhythms of dhol, toka, pepa, etc., collectively.

The community will celebrate Manuh Bihu tomorrow. The Bihu will continue for days as per the period fixed by the satradhikar of different satras for respective areas. On the last day of the Bihu, there will be a celebration of Bihu Uruwa festival by the community.
