Bid to promote organic farming in Manipur village

AWANGKHUNOU, Jan 1 - K Dwijamani Sharma, a farmer from Awangkhunou village in Imphal West district, wants to take up organic farming on his agricultural field measuring around half a hectare to avoid pesticide use and produce organic produce.

Responding to him, U Himmat, chief executive officer of Green Foundation, an Imphal-based social enterprise on sustainable development, said: �Prevention of diseases is the prerequisite in organic farming, which can be taken up phase wise in three years� time.�

The above interaction took place during the concluding function of the month-long World Soil Health Day programme held under the aegis of the Awangkhunou Organic Farmers� Club and Green Foundation and in association with the Manipur Organic Mission Agency under Mission Organic Value Chain Development for the North Eastern Region of the Ministry of Agriculture at Awangkhunou Maning Leikai Hall on Monday.
