Bid to promote legal adoption in Darrang

By Correspondent

MANGALDAI, Nov 10 - Darrang Deputy Commissioner Dilip Kumar Borah on Monday expressed keen interest to promote legal child adoption in the district while preventing possible trafficking and illegal adoption.

He was speaking to the office-bearers of the government-registered Specialized Adoption Agency (SAA), run by local NGO Crystal Vision during his maiden visit to its office. He also spoke of his plan to develop a single integrated site at Mangaldai for all such institutions under the social welfare department. He said he also has a plan to develop a campus at Mangaldai where different institutions with noble social causes may function under the social welfare department. This will also minimise the need of manpower, he said.

Borah expressed his happiness over the manner in which the child care home for the orphaned and abandoned children is being maintained, and congratulated the NGO members for their efforts.

Earlier, the DC greeted a Delhi-based couple with a traditional gamosa for choosing a female infant of around four months of age from the SAA for adoption.

It may be mentioned that the legal adoption scenario in the district has got a fillip with altogether seven babies being in the process of legal adoption within a short period.
