By CITY CORRESPONDENT

GUWAHATI, April 8 - The Coordination Committee on Participation in Democracy (CCPiD) and the Social Actions for New Alternatives (SANA) organised a programme, General Election 2019 Peoples expectations Voters Voice, here today.

Hundreds of people from different districts of the State including Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, Darrang, Nalbari, Barpeta, Goalpara, Kamrup and Kamrup Metro took part in the programme where representatives of various political parties and the Independent candidate of the Guwahati Lok Sabha constituency, Upamanyu Hazarika, listened to the public views on various issues.

As part of the programme, the CCPiD and SANA also released a draft report about the expectations of voters of the State. According to these organisations, the draft report is based on public statements recorded in a series of open house discussions held in various parts of the State in the past few days. The draft report covers issues and problems on youth and employment, problems of tea garden workers and their expectations, land issues, agriculture, agricultural industry and products, education, womens issues and urban problems.

In Assam there is need of a clear action plan along with strategies and agenda including a precautionary risk plan to manage the inflow of migrants from other States. Moreover, there is also need for a data base or register on the numbers of youth migrating from villages to cities, the draft report stated in its youth and employment part.

It further stated that the employment crisis in the State reflects problems related to disparity in the distribution of income in rural and urban areas.

The condition of the construction workers is grim and subject to social abuse and exploitation. A policy on social security for the construction workers is a must to prevent abuse and exploitation by vested interests, the report said in its urban issues section.
