Bid to contain erosion at Majuli

GUWAHATI, March 12 - The technical advisory committee of the Brahmaputra Board (TAC-BB) headed by Narendra Kumar, Chairman of Central Water Commission conducted a pre-monsoon inspection of river island Majuli from March 2 to 4 for identification of erosion-prone reaches at Tekeliphuta, Kamalabari, Pakhimuri-Padumoni, Kordoiguri, Ukhalchuk and Chamaguri under Ahatguri Gaon Panchayat, a press release received here stated.

The technical advisory committee members recommended remedial measures for taking up physical protection of erosion-affected reaches. Based on the recommendations of the committee, a detailed project report is being prepared by the Brahmaputra Board for consideration of the Standing Finance Committee (SFC) of the Government of India, which is slated to be held on March 10, the release added.
