Bid to bring cheer in lives of underprivileged

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, May 15 - In order to bring cheer into the lives of underprivileged children, My City Initiative, Guwahati, World Vision India will celebrate the birthday of such children on May 21.

Under the initiative of World Vision India, children of Garchuk, Lokhra and Basistha will get an opportunity to celebrate and have fun.

In these areas most of the children do not get the opportunity to celebrate their birthday due to poor economic backgrounds, disinterest of parents and their ignorance to celebrate the most important day of their children. And this is a common scenario in almost all the areas where World Vision India works. These children are sometimes looked down upon by others and sometimes they are frustrated as they cannot remember their birth dates. So, this approach is to celebrate the birthday of all the children together in the community where they reside so that they get an opportunity to celebrate their birthday by cutting of cake, singing, dancing, playing sports and have a grand lunch together, elaborated an official of the World Vision India, adding that the entire community leaders, childrens parents, school teachers and local important persons are invited to witness and take part and encourage the children.

This event will be organised in three cluster areas (Garchuk, Lokhra and Basistha) on Rangpurnagar LP School premises (Lokhra cluster), Adinggiri ME & High School and Kalapani LP School (Garchuk cluster) and 2 No Ganeshpur, Lalmati (Basistha cluster) with the number of community children to participate totalling 3,000.

As part of this, a child-friendly space will be created for the children at the schools with the provision of swings and slides, libraries and sports materials.

The children will take part in different activities such as games, drawing competition, essay writing, and also skit on child rights.
