Bhupendra Sangeet competition organised

GUWAHATI, Nov 8 - The 7th Annual All Assam Bhupendra Sangeet Competition organised by Gandharba on its 11th anniversary, concluded successfully with the crowning of five best singers selected each from upper and lower levels from a total of 80 participants at a programme held on November 7 and 8 in the Karmashree Hiteswar Saikia Auditorium, Baripara, Maligaon.

Gandharba has been working in the field of drama and music, and for the last few years it has been showcasing indigenous productions in the field of drama across Assam. It also produces plays in collaboration with the National School of Drama.

In the competition, which was judged by noted singer and music director Kula Barua, former station director of All India Radio Guwahati, Abani Ranjan Pathak and noted singer Anju Devi, five winners from each category were announced.

In the upper category, the first, second, third, fourth and fifth prizes were bagged by Sanskrita Malakar, Biman Gaonkhowa, Nibedita Kalita, Raju Mishra, and Ron Konwar respectively, while in the lower category first, second, third, fourth and fifth prize were bagged by Abhruman Kashyap, Darina Mahanta, Bhawana Saikia, Kristina Kashyap and Ridipta Sarma respectively.

Gandharba also enthralled the audience with their home production Kalpadrum, a play directed by Himjyoti Baishya.
