Bhupenda�s death anniversary at Mumbai

GUWAHATI, Nov 1 � The Assam Association, Mumbai is organising a commemorative event titled �Jajabor: A Tribute to Dr Bhupenda, A Tribute to Life� at the TATA Theatre, NCPA at 6:45 pm of November 4 next to mark the third death anniversary of the legendary musician. The event will be a free for all one.

According to a press release received here, the evening will have a Jugalbandi by renowned duo of Taufiq Quereshi and Rahul Sharma, a folk instrumental medley by Sangeet Natak Akademi award winner Prabhat Sarma and his troupe. Noted singers Usha Mangeshkar, Shaan, Zubeen Garg, Mausumi Saharia and the bard�s own nephew Mayukh Hazarika shall present a medley of Dr Hazarika�s songs.

The event will also see an ensemble of Indian classical dance composed on the immortal songs of Dr Bhupen Hazarika by Prateesha Suresh and her troupe. Noted Sattriya exponent Dr Mallika Kandali will offer her tribute to Bhupenda through Sattriya dance.

It needs mention here that it was Dr Hazarika, who was greatly responsible for the uplift of Sattriya dance form into a major Indian dance form. The Sangeet Natak Akademi recognised Sattriya as a major Indian dance form when Dr Hazarika was its chairman.

Aparup Borpuzari, Organizing coordinator of Jajabor, told this newspaper that the aim behind this exercise is to popularize Dr Bhupen Hazarika's cultural creation among all people of the country.
