Bhupen Hazarika Sangeet Samaroh on Feb 12

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, Dec 21 Though politics and geography have divided the North East region, all the sister States of the region will come together again singing the songs of life that have been created by the cultural icon Dr Bhupen Hazarika. This is the hope of Tripura Cultural and Higher Education Minister Anil Sarkar who has embarked on an ambitious mission to take the songs of the popular bard to every nook and corner of the world.

Talking to mediapersons on Wednesday, Sarkar who took the initiative in constituting the Dr Bhupen Hazarika Krishti Kala Prasar Mancha, said that the potent weapon to resist the proliferation of fundamentalism, insurgency, ethnic conflict, border skirmished, etc., in the region was music.

We have undertaken this journey to build the bridge of unity and amity between all the North East States and other neighbouring countries through the songs of Dr Bhupen Hazarika. Dr Hazarikas songs are a class apart as they sing the resurrection of humanity, said Sarkar, informing that units of the Mancha have been opened at all the capital cities of the region.

The chief executive body of the Mancha will be in Guwahati. We have units in Kolkata and Dhaka as well, said Sarkar, adding that this is a unique organization as there are no rules and no control. Anyone can float a unit of the Mancha and organize performances of the songs of Dr Bhupen Hazarika.

It needs to be mentioned here that the Mancha every year will organize a Dr Bhupen Hazarika Sangeet Samaroh in Guwahati, Kolkata, Agartala and Dhaka. The first such Sangeet Samaroh will be held in Guwahati on February 12, 2012. This would be a 9 am to 9 pm programme and anyone can come and render a song of Bhupenda. The participation of young artiste Rahul Mandal in this event is final.

The 21st century belongs to music, to Dr Bhupen Hazarika. There is no language bar for this Sangeet Samaroh. Songs of Dr Hazarika translated into any language can be sung in this programme, said Sarkar stressing that this effort will unite all people because people want to live in music.
