Bhupen Hazarika award to Rabiram Brahma

GOLAGHAT, Nov 10 � The Dr Bhupen Hazarika Smriti Divas was observed at Golaghat under the aegis of the Dr Bhupen Hazarika Smritiraksha Samiti and the Golaghat Zila Students Union with a two-day programme from November 5. An open meeting was also held on the occasion with senior journalist Dweepen Dutta in the chair.

Itor Mew Mai, chief editor of Eastern Mirror of Nagaland was the chief guest in the meeting, who underlined the manifold achievements of Dr Hazarika in the field of art and music. Describing Dr Hazarika as the pioneer of peace and integration in the Northeast, he urged the people to work for humanity, peace and love.

In the meeting, Rabiram Brahma, an acclaimed artist hailing from Udalguri, was presented the Dr Bhupen Hazarika Sanghati Bota by the Dr Bhupen Hazarika Smritiraksha Samiti. The award consists of a citation, a seleng chadar, a safura and Rs 15,000 in cash. Accepting the award, Brahma underlined the importance of the musical achievements of Dr Hazarika and his dedicated contribution for integration in the region. Earlier, after the organisation�s secretary Rohit Gogoi stated the objectives of the function, the welcome address was delivered by AASU State executive member Md Monowar Hussain.

In the Sudhakantha Divas, organised by the Press Club, Golaghat, Dr Azit Barua, Ponaram Barua, Bhadra Kanta Gogoi and Keshab Saikia addressed the function. The day was also observed at New Girls High School and Aikyatan Gosthi.
