Bhubaneswar Kalita likely to be replaced

NEW DELHI, Nov 7 The AICC high command is yet to take a final call on Chief Minister Tarun Gogois list of names, even as PCC president Bhubaneswar Kalita may be on his way out.

Senior leaders Bijoy Krishna Handique and Paban Singh Ghatowar on Friday separately called on Congress president Sonia Gandhi to brief her about the developments in the party and government in the State.

Sources said that the AICC high command might seek some additional names from Gogoi before deciding on the panel of names. However, the high command seems to have made up her mind to revamp the PCC first and change the president, said sources.

The names that are doing the round for PCC president includes Anjan Dutta, Bhupen Bora while State Minister Pradyut Bordoloi is also actively lobbying for the post, said sources.

At the last weeks meeting, AICC general secretary in-charge for Assam Dr CP Joshi had submitted a report suggesting change of CLP leader and PCC president.

Sources said that while Rahul Gandhi is to take a call on changing the CLP leader, the matter has been put on hold as other options are being considered. The option now is to seek some more names from Gogoi.

The Chief Minister had submitted a panel of names for expansion of his Council of Ministry, including eight vacancies that exists. Gogoi has since been waiting.

Meanwhile, some of the senior leaders, who met Gandhi, have suggested that all efforts should be made by AICC to unify the party ahead of the 2016 elections. It was suggested that the Congress president should invite leaders of all factions to Delhi and direct them to work together, said sources.

Meanwhile, Ghatowar, when contacted, declined to divulge what he discussed with Gandhi, stating that he gave an overview of the recent developments in the party.
