Bhimkanta Buragohain released on bail

TEZPUR, Oct 26 � The Tezpur court today ordered the Central Jail authority, Guwahati to set free Bhimkanta Buragohain alias Mama from jail against the two cases pending at Tezpur court after accepting the bail bond submitted for the bail order of the veteran ULFA leader.

It is to be mentioned that the bail plea of Bhimkanta Buragohain was approved by the District and Sessions Judge, Tezpur, on October 8.

The ULFA leader was produced at Tezpur court today. Two of his nephews namely, Anup Phukan and Kula Baruah submitted the bail bond for Bhimkanta Buragohain against the court bail order issued on October 8.

Buragohain will go back to his native village Ahom Gaon, Dhola in Tinsukia district after being released from jail. The veteran ULFA leader has been away from his

home for the last twenty years.

While interacting with the media after coming out of the court, the veteran leader said though he is free but it is conditional only. Regarding negotiations with the government, he said the ULFA chairman and the members of the central executive committee must be freed from the jail to convene the central executive meeting. He further informed that the process has been initiated for extradition of Anup Chetia, who is presently in Bangladesh jail.

The top ULFA leader Ramu Mech and relatives of Bhimkanta Buragohain along with the villagers of Ahom Gaon were present today at Tezpur court.
