Bhimananda Tanti elected Deputy Speaker

GUWAHATI, June 8 � Congress' MLA Bhimanada Tanti was elected unopposed as the Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly today. There were five nominations filed in support of Tanti's candidature for the post by the treasury bench.

Congratulating Tanti after his election to the post, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that as an experienced member of the House he (Tanti) would be able to help proper running of the House proceedings.

Asom Gana Parishad's (AGP's) Prafulla Kumar Mahanta congratulated Tanti on behalf of the AGP Legislature Party and expressed the hope that he would remain unbiased as the Deputy Speaker of the House.

Congratulating Tanti on his election to the post, All India United Democratic Front's (AIUDF's) Sirajuddin Ajmal said that his party would extend all possible help and cooperation to the Deputy Speaker in running the House in a proper manner.

On behalf of the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Legislature Parties Chandan Brahma and Prasanta Phukan also congratulated Tanti on his election to the post.

Tanti thanked all the members of the House, particularly the Congress Legislature Party and its leader Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, for nominating and electing him to the post. He expected help and support from all members of the House and officers and employees of the Assembly Secretariat.
