Bhergaon ready to host ABSU convention

KALAIGAON, Jan 7 � The 46th annual convention of the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) will be held at Bhergaon near here from January 9 to 12. Six thousand delegates from various places of India as well as from Nepal and Bhutan are expected to attend the convention.

The reception committee headed by Kulen Boro, president and Dipen Mushahary, secretary told media persons that a plot of 400 bigha land has been converted into a spectacular venue of the ABSU convention named as �Beher Fwthar�.

A budget of Rs 70 lakh has been prepared for the successful completion of the four-day convention. The 220-foot-long and 175-foot-wide main pandal is almost ready that will accommodate approximately 10,000 people. The temporary dining hall is also ready with a sitting capacity of 2,000 people.

On the opening day on January 9 the main gate, different venues, volunteer camp, exhibition, book fair, etc., will be inaugurated, while the next day will see various sports, literary and cultural competitions, which will be followed by the student body�s central working committee meeting. On January 11, ABSU president Pramod Boro will ceremonially hoist the ABSU flag along with 28 district level flags and it will be followed by a peace march . A five-language, 300 page souvenir named Behersrwn, edited by Praneswar Boro and Karna Ram Boro, will be released by Thaneswar Malakar, Deputy Commissioner, Udalguri.

On the concluding day, i.e. on January 12, the grand cultural rally will be flagged off at 9 am by Bidyasagar Narzary, Director, Public Information, New Delhi. The open session will be held at 12 noon which will be presided over by Pramod Boro. Several distinguished people of the country will also attend the open session as invited guests. The reception committee has appealed to all the political parties and organisations not to give any bandh call during the days of the ABSU central convention.
