Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta takes charge as DGP

GUWAHATI, Nov 30 - Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, a 1988-batch Indian Police Service officer of Assam-Meghalaya cadre today took over the charge as Director General (in-charge) of Assam Police from outgoing police chief Kuladhar Saikia.

Speaking to media-persons after taking charge, Mahanta said controlling all kinds of crime will be his main priority. �We also need to concentrate on law and order related issues. Assam Police has a good team of personnel and we will work on community-oriented policing,� he said.

Interacting with media-persons on his last day as the chief of Assam Police, Saikia said, �I have had varied experiences during my tenure as the DGP. Today I want to convey my thanks and gratitude to all who cooperated with me, especially my fellow officials and media-persons.�

The State government is likely to name the full-fledged DGP in the first week of December.
