Bhalukpong-Tawang road completion by 2016

ITANAGAR, Jan 25 � The strategic 317.52 km Bhalukpong-Tawang Road constructed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) will be completed by 2016, its Director General Lt Gen RM Mittal said at the end of his trip to Arunachal Pradesh.

�I found BRO engineers and personnel working with commitment during inspection to Tawang, Tenga, and Bomdila that gave me the confidence about completion of the road,� the Director General said.

Stressing on the priority attached to development of border roads in Arunachal by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said out of the 18 BRO road projects, eight were in the Northeastern region including four in the State.

�This is the first stock taking trip to assess the progress of work and accelerate it by removing hurdles and solving difficulties in execution,� Lt Gen Mittal said.

On the delay in construction of the 221-km Daporijo-Taksing Road, the BRO DG, who along with BRO�s NE in-charge Maj Gen US Dadu and Project Arunanak Chief Engineer Brig HK Pokhariyal inspected the ongoing works at Tama Chung Chung and Reddi in Upper Subansiri district along the Chinese border on Tuesday, said the road would be made despite challenges posed by steep hills.

Regarding availability of materials in border areas, he said during his meeting with Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, he was assured of all assistance. On the proposal of recruiting engineers, Mittal said around 1,000 engineers would be hired temporarily by the BRO.

�The new engineers will sharpen their skills and widen their knowledge base from the BRO expertise,� he said.

Describing the proposed 2,000-km Mago-Thingbu to Vijaynagar border road as a dream project, Lt Gen Mittal described it as necessary for providing land connectivity to the border areas. � PTI
