Bhadrakrishna Goswami passes away

GUWAHATI, July 25 - Former president of the Asom Satra Mahasabha Bhadrakrishna Goswami passed away at a private hospital this morning. He was 86.

A resident of the city�s Anil Nagar area, Goswami was suffering from old-age ailments for quite some time.

His last rites were performed with full State honours at Nabagraha cremation ground this afternoon. The funeral was attended by people from various walks of life, including senior government officials, intellectuals and representatives of various sociocultural organisations and student bodies.

Earlier, the mortal remains of Goswami were taken to the Asam Sahitya Sabha office and the Media Trust premises where people paid their last respect to the departed soul. Goswami was also the president of the Rupnagar-based Media Trust with which he was associated since inception.

Also a research scholar and former journalist, Goswami championed the initiatives to preserve and propagate the religious and sociocultural teachings (Satriya) of Srimanta Sanakaradeva under the banner of the Asom Satra Mahasabha. He also spearheaded a special project to upgrade the infrastructure of various satras in the State.

Born on July 14, 1933, Goswami retired as an official of the Indian Oil Corporation (Assam Oil Division) and was associated with various media publications, including Dainik Janambhoomi, Saptahik Nilachal, and The Sentinel.

Goswami leaves behind his wife and two daughters.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal condoled the death of Goswami and termed it as an irreparable loss to the Assamese society.

The All Assam Students Union, president of Guwahati branch of the Asom Satra Mahasabha Jiten Mahanta and various other organisations also condoled the demise of Goswami.
