BG rail track upto Udaipur by March next

By Prabir Sil

AGARTALA, Oct 4 - Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) General Manager RK Gupta today reiterated that the BG rail track would be commissioned upto Udaipur in Tripura by March 31, 2016.

The NFR is putting in all possible steps to complete the BG conversion work from Karimganj to Udaipur via Agartala on time even as the task is not that easy, he said in an interview with The Assam Tribune at Railway guest house here.

Everybody knows executing a big project is troublesome in this part of the country. Besides adverse geographical condition, material mobilisation is also a big challenge here. Despite all odds, we are determined to complete the BG project on time, Gupta, who is on an on-the-spot inspection for the past two days, said.

The GM further said late arrival of monsoon has caused extensive harm to the ongoing railway projects particularly in Silchar-Lumding section.

Heavy shower in August has caused extensive damage to newly-built BG rail track from Silchar to Lumding. However, we are hopeful of commissioning BG rail service in this section by first week of November, he said.

Gupta, who visited Udaipur railway station along with NFR officials yesterday, said approach road has not been constructed yet due to lengthy monsoon and poor soil condition.

I have seen the area where Udaipur rail station will come up is inundated till today. First, we will have to build an approach road to mobilise construction materials, he said.

Gupta, however, sounds optimistic of laying BG track upto Udaipur within stipulated time of March 31, 2016.

On the Indo-Bangla rail project, the GM said, Preliminary works have already been done. We will start land acquisition process for the 15-km rail track once fund is released.

Gupta, who also visited Nischintapur, a border village, said, soil treatment is required to lay the proposed rail track as soil is very soft on the proposed alignment.

Before leaving the State, the GM met Chief Minister Manik Sarkar in his office at Civil Secretariat here today and apprised him of NFRs activities and future plan.

The General Manager was accompanied by AS Garund, Chief Administrative Officer, Con-I, Harpal Singh, Chief Engineer, Con-8 and other senior officials of NF Railway.
