Bezbaroa�s contribution recalled

JORHAT, Oct 11 � With pride on their lips and confidence in hearts hundreds of students, youths and elderly citizens recited Lakshminath Bezbaroa�s immortal poetic creation Aami Asomiya Nohou Dukhiya at Jorhat District Sports Association�s playground here on Saturday while celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of Rasaraj Lakshminath Bezbaroa.

The programme organised by the district unit of the All Assam Students� Union (AASU) included analytical lecture on the credits and contribution of the doyen of modern Assamese literature whose creations inspired each of the citizens to extend the message of self-respect, unity and brotherhood across the region.

The recitation was followed by analysis on Lakshminath Bezbaroa�s contributions and singing of Jatiya Sangeet.

Stressing the importance of the celebration Dr Pitambar Deva Goswami, Satradhikar of Sree Sree Auniati Satra, said that without remembering Bezbaroa�s contribution no one can think of Assamese literature. In every sphere of Assamese society and literature Lakshminath Bezbaroa�s importance is immensely felt while someone thinks about the heritage of the State.

Among many other dignitaries Bezbaroa�s relative Aditi Bezbaruah also graced the occasion.

Our Nalbari Correspondent adds: Rich tributes were paid to Sahityarathi Lakshminath Bezbaroa on the occasion of his 150th birth anniversary at a function held at Gurdon HS School playground organised by the Nalbari district unit of the AASU today.

The programme started with the garlanding of the portrait of Rasaraj Bezbaroa, followed by the lighting of lamps before the portrait. The students from various schools of the town and the leading citizens recited the poem Bajak Doba Bajak Sangkha, composed by Bezbaroa.

Noted literature Dr Basanta Kumar Bhattacharya delivered a lecture on the life and contributions of Lakshminath Bezbaroa. The programme was conducted by Himan Barman, president of Nalbari district unit of the AASU.
