GUWAHATI, March 23 � The Gauhati University (GU) family has made arrangements to install a life-size bronze statue of Sahityarathi Lakshminath Bezbaroa on the new academic complex compound of the university.
Besides, it has also made arrangements to release several books on this doyen of modern Assamese literature.
President of the GU Lakshminath Bezbaroa 150th Birth Anniversary Celebration Committee, Prof Ranjit Kumar Dev Goswami said the statue sculpted by artist Benu Mishra, would be unveiled by Asam Sahitya Sabha president Imran Shah at a function scheduled for 10 am of March 26.
Litterateur Mahim Bora would grace the occasion as the chief guest, while singers Sudakshina Sarma and Khagen Mahanta would attend the function as guests of honour and present some immortal songs penned by Bezbaroa.
At the same function, four books on Bezbaroa and two reprints � one compilation of essays on Bezbaroa and the other comprising his Baroda lecture and his two other essays on the Bhakti movement, both edited by Prof Maheswar Neog � would also be released.
The books being released in the function would also include the Russian, Odiya and Bengali versions of the 1969 lecture of Prof Suniti Kumar Chatterji on the 19th century renaissance in India and Lakshminath Bezbaroa of Assam, besides an Odiya book of essays on Bezbaroa edited by Prof Kailash Pattanaik of the Visva-Bharati University.
Incidentally, Bezbaroa had left for the other world on March 26, 1938 at the age of 73.
