BISWANATH CHARIALI, Dec 15 � The best farmer award was presented to Dambaru Borah of Gingia under Biswanath subdivision at a function held at Guwahati by the Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi recently.
The award comprised a felicitation letter, a power tiller and a paddy reaping machine. It may be mentioned here that the farmers of Gingia have done much well in the last few years and the place has earned fame in this respect throughout North east India, particularly in potato, sugarcane and �meethapattipaan� cultivation.
Dambaru Borah has become a source of inspiration for fellow farmers by using scientific methods in his farming. It has drawn the attention of the new generation. He has cultivated in around 170 bighas of land this year that covers potato in 70 bighas, sugarcane in 25 bighas, paddy in 50 bighas, betelnut and paan in 5 bighas, brinjals in 10 bighas, bamboo in 5 bighas and fishery in 5 bighas.
On the other hand, vegetables have been grown in some other areas. By cultivating in such huge areas, Dambaru Borah has successfully engaged several other families of his locality in his cultivation and thereby providing bread and butter to this poor families.
According to him, he has earned more than six lakhs of rupees this year from his sugarcane and betel nut-paan fields. Patience, sincerity, hard work and perseverance are his keys to success.
State Agriculture minister, Nilamani Sen Deka visited Dambaru Borah�s residence on December 4 to congratulate him. The minister also visited his agricultural lands and suggested him to avail the benefits offered by the department. He also assured full help and cooperation on his behalf. The people of Biswanath subdivision have also congratulated Dambaru Borah at his success.
