Bengali version of Abdul Maliks novel

By City Correspondent

GUWAHATI, Jan 10 - Distinguished Bengali writer Shaktimoy Das who has a number of translation works to his credit, recently translated the acclaimed Assamese novel Dhanya Nara Tanu Bhal penned by Syed Abdul Malik into Bengali.

Maliks magnum opus is based on the life and exploits of the great 15th-century Assamese saint Srimanta Sankaradeva.

It was a very challenging task for many reasons to translate the novel. However, if someone asks me about my reactions, l would rather say that my reaction was simply a mothers joy after giving birth to a cute baby. This is my New Year gift for the people of Assam as well as to all lovers of Indian literature and culture, Das said.

Das had earlier translated into Bengali Assamese literatures classic Buri Aier Sadhu Grandmothers Tales.
