Belgium envoy calls on Governor

GUWAHATI, March 8 - Jan Luykx, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium, paid a courtesy call on Governor PB Acharya at Raj Bhavan here today.

The Ambassador was accompanied by his wife Raka Singh; Counsellor Economic Affairs, Antoine Delcourt; Trade Counsellor for Flanders, Investment & Trade (FIT), Alexis Bossuyt and Trade Counsellor for the Wallonia Export & Investment Agency (AWEX), Chritophe Van Overstraeten.

During the course of discussion, the Ambassador said that it was his first visit to Assam and that the main agenda was the visit to the State and to explore the possibilities of developing trade and commerce and renewable energy.

The Governor suggested that they should look into the prospects of doing something in the education sector, besides in the handloom and handicrafts, organic farming and coal sectors. He also said that they should come forward to help in skill development which is of great importance as the State had sufficient manpower. He also suggested that Belgian cooperation could be extended to the tea industry.
