Beheaded girl a victim of human trafficking

By Correspondent

MANGALDAI, March 31 Sensation prevailed in the Dhula area near here on Monday following the recovery of the headless body of a minor girl, who hailed from the area, at an abandoned place near Deepor Beel off Guwahati on Sunday.

The Darrang Police, at the initiative of the Investigating Officer and Deputy Superintendent of Police (Probationary), Rashmi Rekha Sarma, acted promptly to arrest three human traffickers involved in the incident.

According to information available, Masooma Begum (15), daughter of a rickshaw-puller, Jahiruddin, of Balabari village under the Dhula Police Station in Darrang district, had reportedly gone missing on March 16 while on her way to her grandmothers house at Mangaldai.

Her father, after making several unsuccessful attempts to trace his daughter, informed the Dhula Police on March 23. Taking the case seriously, Superintendent of Police Vivek Raj Singh then instructed DSP Rashmi Rekha Sarma to investigate the case.

Sarma, accompanied by the Officer in-Charge of the Dhula Police Station, managed to arrest one Sahadur Rahman of Batabari village under the Dhula PS, which later led to the arrest of two others Fazar Ali of Panbari village and Fazibor Rahman of Dhula, both of whom had been staying in Guwahati.

During his interrogation, Sahadur said he lured the girl with false promises and took her to New Delhi by train from Guwahati on March 18 and tried to sell her off in the national capital.

However, as he failed to get the expected amount of Rs 1 lakh, he brought her back to Guwahati. After his arrival at the Kamakhya Station on March 21, Sahadur, accompanied by the two co-accused, took the minor girl to the Deepor Beel area and beheaded her. They later buried the head and the body separately to conceal evidence, Sahadur told the police.
