SHILLONG, Oct 6 � Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW) today directed the State Government to take stern action against anyone found guilty after a teenage girl�s severed body was recovered from a jungle in East Garo Hills on Sunday.
The 15-year-old girl�s body was found near Songsak road, a little away from Kisumgolgre village in East Garo Hills district with the severed parts found strewn in the jungle. The girl�s stepfather has been arrested after he allegedly gave contradictory statements before his clan members after being summoned when the girl went missing a week ago.
MSCW chairperson Theilin Phanbuh said that the State Government and departments concerned should take immediate legal action against the perpetrator who committed the crime. �The gruesome murder of an innocent young girl of only 15 years has once again put our society to shame,� Phanbuh said here.
The Commission further expressed �deep concern, anguish and pain� on the death of the teenager and extended condolences to the bereaved family. �Crimes against women and girls are increasing every day. This is unacceptable,� the chairperson stated.
The police, meanwhile, suspects the victim has been raped before being murdered. The report of the girl gone missing was incidentally filed by the victim�s stepfather on September 28, but, subsequently based on a second FIR filed by the victim�s mother on October 1, the stepfather was arrested.
Meanwhile, the body has been sent for postmortem and the police are waiting for the report to take the investigation forward.
PTI adds: The beheaded body of the teenaged girl with her arms chopped off was recovered from a jungle near Songsak road, police said. The girl was suspected to have been raped before murder since the body was nude when it was recovered last night. Her arms and head were found some distance away and wild animals ate much of her body flesh, police said.
