GUWAHATI, Aug 21 - Bee-keeping is useful in pollination of crops and in increasing income of the farmers or beekeepers by way of increasing crop yield and providing honey and other beehive products like royal jelly, bee pollen, propolis and bees wax, etc. Mowsam Hazarika, former editor of Bigyan Jeuti and a senior agriculture department official, stated this while attending a daylong awareness meeting organised by the Rural Development Society at Panjabari here on Saturday.
Speaking as a resource person, he said beekeeping is recognised as one of the important inputs for sustainable development of agriculture and horticulture. Honey is a good antioxidant and contains phenols, enzymes, flavonoids and organic acids, all of which play a crucial role as major health benefits of the product, he added.
Noted educationist Dr Pabitra Pran Barua chaired the meeting.
