Be challenging to win,says Mary Kom

IMPHAL, Aug 25 � Manipur continues to felicitate Olympic bronze medallist and world champion boxer MC Mary Kom in Imphal by awarding cash awards and gift hampers.

On her arrival this morning after attending Olympic Gold Quest sponsored felicitation program in Mumbai, the first ever Indian Olympic medallist in women boxing was formally felicitated by her police department in presence of Home Minister Gaikhangam and State DGP Yumnam Joykumar Singh at 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles banquet hall.

In the day�s colourful function, the mother of twin boys was awarded a cash award of Rs 5 lakhs while her fellow Olympians- L Bombayla (Archery), L Devendro (Boxing), Ng Sonia (Weightlifting) and Kh Kothajit (Hockey) Rs 1 lakh each.

Later the 29 year old pugilist was also felicitated in a reception function at UNNACO group of company, at its school children filled UNACCO school complex at Khongman in Imphal East district.

Speaking on the occasion Mary Kom asked the school children to work hard and to be more patient to achieve their goals in life.

�With your will powers, challenge it to achieve your goals. I have a challenge in life that as boys go for boxing, why not the girls and that helps me in becoming what I�m today,� the mother of a twin sons said. �Also sweat more to become a success person in life.�

UNACCO� one of the leading NBFC microfinance institute in northeast India, which has been providing financial assistance to Mary Kom in running her boxing academy wherein more than 30 under privileged rural boys and girls were given training, since the last 4 years, is also announced to help in bringing out her biography in a book.

�We�re also thinking of providing free education to some of the academy children in our school,� says N Irabanta, man behind the UNNACO group of company. �For this talks are on with the Academy authority and Mary�s husband.�

Prior to UNNACO reception, Mary Kom accompanied by her husband Onler Kom and Private Secretary Jimmy Leivon, also formally opened a new Samsung smart phone outlet at Majorkhul junction in the heart of Imphal town.

Indian Chamber Commerce sponsored another felicitation function is also on at Classic Hotel till the filing of this report. The district administration and Autonomous District Council of Churachandpur is also all set to organize a grand reception ceremony for the Olympic bronze medallist at Lamka ground, 65 km south of here tomorrow.
