BCCI official takes stock of Barsapara stadium

GUWAHATI, Feb 6 � Venkat Sundaram, chairman of Board of Control for Cricket in India�s (BCCI) Field and Pitch Committee, today visited Assam Cricket Association�s (ACA) stadium at Barsapara here.

A former first class cricketer and top class curator, Venkat Sudaram took stock of the pitch and outfield of the 60,000-capacity stadium along with the practice pitches.

Later interacting with mediapersons, the BCCI official opined that it will certainly be an international cricket stadium as everything is in right order. He suggested atleast 15 practice pitches outside the stadium, including turf, concrete, and even matting, so that players of all category can practice. He asked the ACA officials not to allow players to practice in the main ground.

Venkat Sundaram, took stock about the preparation of the wicket from the Klorophyll Sports Star Technology and Construction Pvt Ltd official Joy Jyoti Dutta. The company has been given the responsibility to prepare the ground and wickets. The BCCI official seemed not satisfied with the pitch preparation and asked for a test report which has to be verified. He suggested arrangements for lights at the practice pitches along with scientific drainage system as this part of the country has a active monsoon season.

Venkat Sundaram also suggested that the organisers prepare an aerial walk from the practice arena to the players pavilion in order to avoid chaos during international matches. The BCCI official asked the ground preparing agency to use purified water so that ground water does not destroy the grass.

He said before staging international matches, sufficient numbers of local, State level and national level matches have to be organised on the main wickets. The BCCI official asked the ACA to prepare atleast nine wickets in the main ground. According to him a ground should be made ready outside the stadium in order to have practice matches.
