Bauli Kavi�s birth anniversary

GUWAHATI, June 8 � The 118th birth anniversary of �Bauli Kavi� Kamalananda Bhattacharya was observed with a day-long programme under the aegis of Shrutinaad at the Shilpgram auditorium recently.

On the occasion, an all-Assam prize-money competition on Bauli Kavi�s songs was held in two categories � Group A from seven years to 14 years and Group B above 14 years.

It was followed by a cultural function in the evening where classical vocalist Ragini Bhattacharya who is the granddaughter of the Bauli Kavi, and Spandan Parasar and Jyotirmoy Chakravarty, among others, enthralled the audience with their soulful numbers.

Before the cultural function, radio artiste Mridula Das, poet Geeta Hatikakati, educationist and poet Dinesh Baishya, singer Nandita Sarma and artiste Archana Bhattacharya addressed the prize-distribution ceremony.

In Group A, Trishnashree Sarma, Himlina Alam and Dorina Mahanta secured the top three spots respectively. In Group B, Rhidhhiman Phukan, Limpi Barman and Mousumi Bhuyan were first three position-holders respectively.

The winners received Rs 1,500, Rs 1,000 and Rs 700 respectively besides certificates.

Two more awards � for best voice quality (Bibeknanda Bhattacharya memorial award) and for best pronunciation and expression (Amulya Chakravarty memorial award) � were given to Ankita Barthakur and Anubhav Kashyap respectively. Each of the winners got Rs 1,000.
