Battery-driven vehicles flagged off

GUWAHATI, Aug 31 - NF Railway General Manager Ranjit Singh Virdi flagged off two ambulances and two battery-operated small vehicles (golf carts) meant for use by differently-abled persons at the Guwahati Railway Station, at a ceremony held at Maligaon on Sunday, said an NFR release today.

The vehicles were donated by the Indian Railway Construction Company Ltd.

The two ambulances, costing about Rs 8 lakh will be used by the Railway Central Hospital at Maligaon for transferring passengers taken ill while travelling on trains to nearby hospitals from Kamakhya and Guwahati stations, besides transferring sick railway employees and their family members to and from their residences or workplaces and hospitals.

The two golf carts costing about Rs 9 lakh, will be used to help differently-abled persons while boarding and de-boarding trains at the Guwahati Railway Station.
