Basketball academy to be set up in city

GUWAHATI, Sept 26 � With a moto to develop the standard of basketball in the entire north-eastern region, a group of organisers are going to set up North East Basketball Academy at the Hengerabari basketball campus here.

Addressing mediapersons here today, Basketball Association of Assam (BSA) secretary Mukut Medhi said players in the age group of 14 to 16 years of entire north eastern region will get admission in the academy which is meant for girls only.

Admission will start from December 15 for the academy which will be a residential one. Day boarding facilities will also be available for the local players, Medhi said.

Meanwhile, three Assam girls � Junali Dutta, R Uma and Kiron Basfor have been selected for the preliminary Indian camp. BAA president Pulak Goswami announced that he will sponsor all the three girls. BAA also felicitated the State girls team which got the fifth position in the recently concluded sub-junior nationals at Lucknow. All the girls were presented with a ball each by the BAA.

Apart from Medhi and Goswami, Dhyan Chand Award winning basketball coach Ram Kumar, BAA official Dinesh Saikia, Manipur basketball body official RK Santosh Singh were also present in the press conference.
