Baseball academy mooted

GUWAHATI, July 16 � The Assam Baseball Association (ABA) is planning to set up a baseball academy at Duliajan in association with Oil India Limited.

Disclosing this in a press conference here today, the ABA secretary Ashma Begum said the blue print of the academy has been prepared and it is set to be launched. DD Khound, General Manager Administration, OIL, who was also present in the press conference said, OIL will sponsor the project for which 20 players were already selected.

Ahmed further revealed that three players-Chiranjib Baruah, Amal Teron and Majid Khan have been selected for a trial camp of pitchers. She said an American expert is visiting India these days for spotting youngsters who can pitch the ball at speed of 90 km per hour. Chiranjib, Amal and Majid will attend the trial camp soon.

Meanwhile, the ABA today felicitated Sports Minister Ajit Singh. Receiving the felicitation, Singh promised all possible help to the ABA and other sports. He also urged the sportspersons to work hard in order to bring back the past glory. The State baseball body was founded a couple years ago but has been able to achieve some landmark. Last year they organised East Zone championship and took part in junior national at Goa.
