Barpeta emerge ID cricket champs

GUWAHATI, Jan 19 � Barpeta clinched the title in the Nuruddin Trophy Plate Group Senior Inter District Cricket Championship defeating Tinsukia by 47 runs.

On the final day of the three-day match at the Barsapara stadium here today, chasing a victory target of 155 runs in the second innings, Tinsukia were all out for 107 in 33 overs.

Barpeta completed their second innings after adding just four runs this morning to their overnight total of 113 for nine.

Although the target of 155 runs was not so tough, Barpeta bowlers Amlanjyoti Das (4/28) and Nayanjyoti Das (4/26) wrecked their innings with some devastating bowling. Bikash Chetry (36) and Dipen Mahanta (24) were the only Tinsukia batsmen to contribute a little.

Amlanjyoti Das, Manash Das (both Barpeta) and Bikash Chetry (Tinsukia) were selected as man-of-the-match, best batsman and best bowler respectively. The final match was officiated by Bhaskar Bora and Prasanta Nath as umpires while Anupam Das was the scorer.

In the closing function, Assam Cricket Association president Gautam Roy handed over the trophies to the champion and the runners-up teams. Other prizes were given away by Sujit Choudhury, ACA GB member (to the man-of-the-match), Mukut Das (best batsman), Satyagopal Chakravorty (best bowler), both former Ranji players and members of the senior selection committee member, Abdul Khalique, Umpires Board secretary (umpires and scorers).

Tinsukia 1st Innings 162.
