Barpeta boy bags C�wealth karate gold

BARPETA, Dec 3 - Barpeta boy Nishad Ali, a student of class XI at St Tereasa School won a gold medal in the recently concluded Commonwealth Karate Championship in Durban, South Africa yesterday.

The success of Nishad has created a sense of joy here including in the school. He fought in the 76kg junior category.

Altogether eight karatekas from Assam participated in the championship out of which six players won medals.

Hemphu Bonjang won a gold medal in the 10-11 years category and a bronze in the 8-13 years category. Panchamita Bordoloi won in the 10-11 years U-30kg category.

Mrinmay Deoghariya won silver in the U-40 kg category while another silver was won by Iman Gogoi in the female category�s above 59 kg group.
