By Correspondent

BARPETA Oct 30 The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), Barpeta district committee, on Wednesday organised a dharna here in protest against price rise. Hundreds of party workers assembled in front of the party office and took out a procession along the main roads of the town. They protested against the spiralling prices of essential commodities and demanded immediate steps from the Government to check them.

The protesters demanded control in the prices of all essential commodities including medicines and seeds, fertilizers and pesticides used by farmers. The procession proceeded to the office of the Deputy Commissioner where the AGP protesters shouted slogans in support of their demands.

Meanwhile, in another development, activists of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha burnt the effigy of Badaruddin Ajmal here on Wednesday in protest against the alleged links of the AIUDF chief with fundamentalist groups. They protested against the alleged nexus of the AIUDF with radical Islamic groups and demanded a ban on the party.

The BJP, too, alleged that Abdur Rahim Khan, Barpeta MLA, was involved in anti-national activities in the char areas of Barpeta district.

Speaking to media persons, Gautam Pathak, secretary of the Barpeta district committee and an executive member of the State BJP, alleged that Khan has been organising anti-national elements in the char areas of the district. He also demanded that Khan should be interrogated by the NIA.
