By Correspondent

KALAIGAON, April 3 - The rescue of a barn owl from poachers and its successive release has been appreciated by nature loving people of Kalaigaon.

According to information available, a barn owl taking shelter in the ceiling of a building of Lokapriya Bordoloi Public School at Kalaigaon was attacked by a flock of crows in the afternoon of April 2.

The owl was forced to land on the nearby field. Unfortunately, the owl was caught by a group of poachers and taken away to be killed and eaten. The students and teachers of Lokapriya Bordoloi Public School led by Sahabuddin Ahmed (Rubul) followed the people and finally rescued it just before being killed.

The rescued barn owl was later restored to its nest in the school building under the cover of darkness in the presence of a few wildlife activists.

It may be mentioned that barn owls usually prefer to live inside ceilings of big houses like schools or office buildings. They should not be disturbed or dislodged from their nests, not to speak of releasing them in forests, which often means instant death of the owls due to attack by other birds.
