Barkshetri Kumari Puja draws huge crowd

NALBARI, Oct 4 � Durga Puja was celebrated in Nalbari district with great enthusiasm. Over a hundred community puja pandals of the district wore festive look during the Durga Puja. The community Durga Pujas at Sri Sri Harimandir, Gopalbazar, College Chawk, Bijulighat, Tihu, Mukalmua, Ghograpar, Nardi, Ulabari drew huge crowds on the Saptami, Asthami and Navami pujas.

On the day of Navami puja, more than fifty thousand devottees thronged the historic Bilbeswar Devalay of Belsor in Nalbari district. The flow of visitors to the Devalay from various part of the State started since the morning. Despite the opposition of several nature-loving organisations, 38 buffalos were sacrificed at the Bilbeswar Devalaya. Four more buffalos were also sacrificed at Ulabari community Durga Puja under Barbhag Revenue Circle. Accordingly thousands of goats, ducks and pigeons were also sacrificed at different puja pandals during the Asthami and Navami pujas.

On the other hand, the Kumari Puja performed at Adattari near Mukalmua drew a huge crowd on the day of Navami Puja on Friday. On the day, nine minor girls were worshiped as nine forms of Devi Durga � Sailyaputri, Brahmacharini, Chandaghanta, Kusmanda, Scondamata, Katyani, Kalratri, Mahagauri and Sidhidatri. The people thronged the Adattari Durga Puja and offered dresses, ornaments and fruits.

It may be mentioned here that the Barkshetri Nabaratri Durga Puja of Adattari will be completing 50 year in 2016.

The immersion of Devi Goddess at Sahpur-Rajghat, Pagladiyaghat of Nalbari town, Bijulighat of Barbhag also drew huge gathering on Friday and Saturday. On the Bijoya Dashami, Ravan Dahan was also organised by the Tihu Barowari Durga Puja Committee at the Tihu HS School play ground. A 50-feet tall statue of Ravan was erected and set afire after the immersion of the Devi. Thousands of people witnessed the Ravan Dahan at Tihu.
