Barefoot Foundation announces next project

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Jan 21 State-based NGO Barefoot Foundation today announced its next project Barefoot Foundation Educational Programme.

The programme aims to help all students from Class III-XII with affordable quality education, providing onsite academic support to enhance the quality of teaching, and nurturing leadership skills among all students.

Sanjib Rag Dey, Founder and Chairman of Barefoot Foundation said in a statement, In todays fast developing world, there are still some children who are deprived of their primary right the right to education. Education has taken the form of a luxury, a business, the benefits of which goes into the pockets of the vested classes while the marginalized sections still remain deprived because of its expensiveness. Barefoot Foundation Educational Programme aims to bridge this gap by providing quality education in the form of tuition classes at very nominal rates.

He further added, We have already enrolled 400 volunteer teachers all across Assam to help us start with our pilot project that begins in February. We are looking forward to enrolling 100 more volunteers in the second phase of our project. Our well wishers have funded this project to ensure a good start and we hope that donations will continue to flow and keep this project running smoothly.

The educational programme has been designed to provide technical support to teachers and government departments, and is intended to nurture school-community relationships and offer alternative education opportunities for students from marginalized sections of the society.

The foundation will conduct an examination every three months to gauge the amount of development each student has made, and a mark-sheet will be provided to the students. The parents will be kept informed about the performance of their children.

These tri-monthly exams will also be an opportunity to evaluate the performance of the tutors also. The tutors will be allotted with a target success rate for their students. The foundation will find ways to enhance the performance of those tutors who are unable to bring about the desired results among students.

Students will need to pay an annual fee of Rs 400 for their education, and examination fees of Rs 100, to cover the examination expenses.
