GUWAHATI, Dec 2 � The prestigious Bhaba Atomic Research Centre (BARC) would now assist Assam Police in carrying out investigation, something which, according to the law-enforcers, would add teeth to its armour.
This comes as a result of a series of correspondence between the Assam Police and the officials of the research centre, official sources told The Assam Tribune.
Sources further stated that the association would help in solving the new-age criminal cases in an effective manner apart from expediting the investigation process.
"A host of paper work is required to be done before pressing for examination in the atomic centre. We have already done that and hopefully the samples would be sent in a day or two," the sources said.
As one of the first cases, samples collected from the Ruchi manufacturing unit (mustard and refine oil), which was raided recently on charges of adulteration by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), would be sent for examination at the atomic research centre in a day or two.
The manufacturing unit of Ruchi, a leading brand of the North-east, was sealed after the staff members of the firm were reportedly indulging in adulteration of the products.
Additional Director General of Police (CID) Mukesh Sahay, when contacted, confirmed that the samples would be sent for forensic examination to the Bhaba Atomic Research Centre.
"This is probably for the first time that such a case would be been sent to the Atomic Research Centre for examination and once it is sent, we can expect better and quick result," a senior Assam Police official told this reporter.
The official further said that, in future too, only select cases would be considered for the Atomic Research Centre and that the State Forensic Laboratory would be the first priority.
