By Correspondent

HAILAKANDI, May 1 The All Barak Youth Students Association (ABYSA) has demanded revival of the Cachar Paper Mill (CPM) of Hindustan Paper Corporation (HPC).

At a meeting held at Panchgram in Hailakandi district in collaboration with Cachar Paper Project Workers and Employees Association (CPPWEA), ABYSA has strongly condemned the attitude of the HPC authorities regarding continuation of production of paper in the mill.

The general secretary of CPPWEA, Lalit Raj informed the meeting that uncertainty over the halt to production in the mill was created recently due to the ban imposed on the issuance of permit by the Government of Mizoram regarding the supply of bamboo.

He said that there is a conspiracy by a section of contractors of Dima Hasao district and alleged that this section of contractors are trying to take over the business of supply of bamboo to the mill and most probably they have influenced the Mizoram Government to stop the issuancee of permit. Raj held the view that a strong movement against Mizoram Government should be started in Panchgram for lifting the ban on the issuance of permit.

He urged the people of Barak Valley and all organisations to form a common platform for the revival and development of Cachar Paper Mill. He further said that the future of the employees and labourers of the mill is totally uncertain due to the present situation.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief advisor to ABYSA, Baharul Islam Barbhuiya criticized the role of the elected public representatives of Barak Valley and said that they are not at all interested to develop the Valley through the setting up of more industries and the development of existing industries. He alleged that a big sugar mill at Anipur in Karimganj district has also been closed due to their negligence.

He cautioned the leaders that the people of Barak Valley will not tolerate this sort of activities of the political leaders and said that a greater mass movement will definitely be launched.
