Bar owner, two others held

GUWAHATI, Sept 30 - Three persons, including the owner of Gohali bar-cum-restaurant located in Ganeshguri area, were arrested after they allegedly physically assaulted the on-duty government officials who went to check violation of excise rules last night.

Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup (Metro) Dr M Angamuthu, following the incident, suspended the licence of the bar-cum-restaurant and also issued a showcause notice, asking why the licence should not be cancelled.

Employees of the bar-cum-restaurant were found serving liquor to customers even after the deadline of 10 pm fixed under the excise rules, official sources said.

A special team of the district administration and the excise department, led by ADC Rajiv Prakash Baruah, last night conducted raids at various places to check violation of excise rules by bars, wine shops and restaurants in Guwahati.

In another raid today, one person was arrested from the New City Resort located at Lokhra and alcohol worth several thousand rupees was seized.
