GUWAHATI, April 9 - A 14-member cultural delegation of Bangladesh led by Hasan Arif, general secretary of Sanmilito Sanskritik Jot called on Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at the latter�s official residence in the city today and exchanged several views to strengthen cultural ties between Assam and Bangladesh.
During their nearly 30 minute meeting, Sonowal acknowledged the historical, cultural and ethnic links between Assam and Bangladesh and also said that the present dispensation in the country has been emphasising on building a strong connectivity link between India and Bangladesh, as he happily referred to the recent decision of the Government to dredge the Brahmaputra in Assam as well as in Bangladesh to strengthen connectivity between the two geographical entities.
Sonowal also emphasised on more cultural exchanges between Assam and Bangladesh so that the existing mutual relationship can be strengthened to a great extent. He also requested the cultural delegation to carry back the love and affection of the people of Assam to Bangladesh and work on a stronger foundation of friendship and camaraderie. Sonowal also hosted a breakfast party for the cultural troupe.
The delegation also conveyed its gratitude to the Government of Assam and the people for embracing the members of the delegation whole-heartedly and welcoming them with all hospitality, said an official release.
